Mose 06.04.12

The surgery went well. They had one minor thing happen while he was being intubated (anesthesiologist used scissors to guide the tube down Moses throat and accidentally cut him on the soft palette) he has one stitch there.

He will be intubated until tomorrow and obviously very sedated so Christian and Lisa will have the night to themselves taking care of him and the rest of the family will get to peek in on him tomorrow.

Please pray for a speedy healing and that the cut will heal ultra-fast so he will be able to suck his pacifier and feed with no pain- those are small comforts to this little guy and we don't want that to be robbed from him.

Also, please keep Christian and Lisa in your prayers over the next week. It's hard to watch your child in even a little bit of pain, so this time will be probably harder on them in some ways than on Mose. Especially when he is so small and can't articulate his pain and needs. So pray that they have an acute awareness of his needs during this critical period.

One thing they said is that babies who have the Glenn Procedure have a pretty bad headache for about 2 weeks because the blood flow to their brain changes, therefore the pressure in the head changes and causes a headache. So, they said to anticipate a cranky baby. Pray that this headache and other pain would be minimized.

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap

I got this recipe from my friend, who got it from one of her friends. I just decided to take pictures along the way so, here it is!

Supposedly, when using this homemade blend you do not need fabric softener or dryer sheets-it does it all!

Supplies Needed:
Washing Soda
Borax
Zote Soap
Recipe:
4 Cups of Hot Water
1 Zote Soap Bar
2 Cups of Washing Soda
1 Cup of Borax
Yield: 5 Gallons of CONCENTRATED detergent.

Instructions:

Grate Zote Soap Bar (I got a pink bar to make the detergent pink but there is white)
Add grated Zote Soap to saucepan with water. Stir continually over medium-low heat until it dissolves and is melted.

Fill a 5-gallon bucket half full of hot tap water.
(I used a 10 gallon Sterilite bin, it is small and I can put all of the 5-gallons in at once.)
Add Borax, Washing Soda and Melted Soap.
Stir well until all powder is dissolved (If you are using a 5-gallon bucket fill the rest of the water to the top)

Cover and let it sit overnight to thicken

The next day, stir and fill a used, clean laundry soap dispenser HALF full with soap (this is concentrated!) and the rest with water. Shake before each use (it will gel).

Optional: You can add 10-15 drops of essential oil per 2 gallons. Add once soap has cooled. Ideas: Lavendar oil, rosemary, tea tree oil. (Just make sure it is essential oil for use in soap!)

Yield: Liquid recipe makes 10 GALLONS!

Top Load Machine: 5/8 Cup (Approx. 180 loads-on average 6 months based on 7 loads per week)
Front Load: 1/4 Cup (Approx 640 loads)

For All of the ingredients I spent less than $10 and I can make so many more loads with all I bought since you only use 1-2 cups of the ingredients+ the bar of zote.
